The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers 380+ awards yearly in more than 100 countries for U.S. citizens to teach, conduct research and carry out professional projects around the world. College and university faculty, as well as artists and professionals from a wide range of fields can join over 400,000 Fulbrighters who have come away with enhanced skills, new connections, and greater mutual understanding.
The 2027-2028 Fulbright US Scholar Program is now open and accepting applications. While we do not currently have any additional information sessions planned, UW-Madison faculty, staff, and graduate students exploring post-doc options, are invited to register your interest or book an appointment with Mark Lilleleht, UW-Madison’s Fulbright Coordinator, to discuss the various programs, your specific interests, and which might be best for you.

On May 7, 2026, Fulbright offered a webinar on, “Global Hidden Gems of the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Competition for 2027-28”. In Fulbright parlance, “hidden gems” are those award offerings that are new to the program, perhaps don’t receive as many high-quality applications as they would like to see, or that Fulbright would otherwise like to feature to applicants for the current cycle.
