Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad information session (October 29, 2024)

The Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) program funds doctoral candidates to conduct research abroad for periods of 6 to 12 months. Applicants must be US citizens, nationals, or permanent residents and proficient in the foreign language/s to be used to conduct their research. The grant does not fund research whose primary focus is on/in Western European countries though it does allow for & fund research visits to western European countries that are part of a larger project focused elsewhere.

Though the 2025 competition has not yet opened we expect this year’s competition to open sometime between now and February 2025. The UW-Madison Fulbright Coordinator will be hosting an information session on October 29 for graduate students interested in learning more about the DDRA and getting a jump start on their applications!

Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad information session
Tuesday, October 29, 2024 @ 4pm
336 Ingraham Hall

We will have at least one additional information session during International Education Week (November 18-22) and additional sessions when the 2025 competition opens.

While the 2025 application is likely to open sometime in February 2024 (with a deadline 8 weeks later), the opening date varies year-to-year and we never know when it will launch. This year we have been told by the Department of Education that all Fulbright-Hays programs are likely to open “in the coming months” – which could be February 2025. Or November 2024. It’s good to start planning, drafting, and connecting with research partners in-country early if you are interested in pursuing a DDRA!

Mark Lilleleht, UW-Madison Fulbright Coordinator, is available for appointments to discuss DDRA, your particular work, and the like throughout the year – feel free to schedule an appointment through Starfish.

More complete information on the DDRA can be found on our website @ https://fulbright.wisc.edu/ddra/ and you can learn more about the UW-Madison’s four 2024 Fulbright-Hays DDRA recipients here.
